I am interested in the work of Ryan Trecartin, as his grotesque, hyperactive characters epitomise the despair within youth and internet culture today. In our film, we were inspired by the disruption of imagined privacy within a public environment, and what could be more emblematic of this than the internet. The highly pitched, erratic actions of the characters, especially in the above clip (The Re’Search) prove the transiency of the celebrity and interest obsessed culture, as girls shout over the phone erratically judging one another and describing their shallow, yet terrifying wants. I am very interested in this manic depiction of the contemporary age, and would like to look into how the erratic actions of certain provocateurs could aid the films narrative, by provoking the reactions of bystanders.
